Homework is a very important part of a child’s education and can enhance a child’s academic development. We believe homework is one of the main ways in which children can acquire the skills of independent learning and we encourage parents to support their child in this process.
From entering Reception children will bring home reading books to share with you and words to learn. Across the school the children will bring home reading books, spelling as well as English and Maths homework and additional research projects linked to the topics they are studying.
Every child in the school will bring home a reading book every night. We ask that you listen to your child read nightly and ask them questions about what they have read. If your child has read 5 times in a week every week they will be rewarded with a certificate at the end of each half term.
Some of the methods that we use in school to help children understand what they are reading are available from the panel on the left.
